A speculative book cover illustration for the China Miéville book 'The City and The City'. I wanted to represent the cultural and architectural differences of the two cities. I chose to represent Besźel—a city down on its luck, abandoned by its allies—with sketchier pencils and more classical, late 19th century style architecture. Meanwhile, Ul-Qoma—a city on the rise, with plenty of foreign investment—is represented with blueprint-like, digital linework and skyscrapers reaching off the page.
